KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas) is a Temporary Stay Permit valid for 1–2 years, issued to foreign nationals sponsored by an Indonesian company, spouse, or for retirement.
KITAP (Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap) is a Permanent Stay Permit valid for 5 years. Available to foreigners who have held a KITAS for 5 consecutive years, or those married to Indonesian citizens for 2 years.
The key practical difference: KITAS holders must report to immigration on each re-entry. KITAP holders enjoy greater freedom of movement and can hold Indonesian property in certain structures.
